COVID-19 has accelerated the pace of change within the fashion industry. Never has the industry been so willing to adopt technology to create and sell fashion, and connect to their consumers, expanding what is known as ‘The Metaverse’ beyond video games.
The Fashion Innovation Agency (FIA) team, at the London College of Fashion, has been hugely sought-after throughout the pandemic, as the industry’s need to engage with customers via online methods has become central to business-as-usual. In a rare, all team appearance, the FIA will talk through their work during the last 18 months, as well as giving sneak peaks into unreleased projects, including virtual catwalks, volumetric capture, digital humans, immersive e-com, real-time cloth simulation and game engine technology. This roundup of lockdown projects demonstrates fashion’s transition between the boundaries from physical to digital, materiality to immaterially.
