Conscious Children’s Costumes with Discover – MAKE

Sunday 8 June
10:00 – 11:30
Makers Space

Turn recycled materials into magical costumes in this playful children’s workshop exploring the power of storytelling and sustainability.

Join The Portal Centre for Social Impact (LCF) and Discover Children’s Story Centre for a creative session that brings stories to life through costume design. Beginning with an interactive story reading led by Discover’s expert storytellers, this workshop invites families to reimagine everyday recycling as a source of inspiration.

Guided by Milly Pinkerton, a designer from LCF specialising in Costume for Performance, participants will learn how to transform discarded items into costume pieces inspired by the world around them. Families are encouraged to bring along recyclable materials from home, whether it’s fabric scraps or old clothes, and discover new ways to create together.

Inspired by LCF’s World Book Day project, this workshop celebrates reading, creativity and sustainability through imaginative play. All materials will be provided, but personal items for recycling are welcome.

Portal Centre for Social Impact
The Portal Centre for Social Impact is shaping the future of fashion. Based at London College of Fashion’s East Bank campus and Poplar Works, we are reimagining how fashion is made, who it’s for and what it can do. Through our Making for Change fashion training and production programme, we support women in prison and local residents into education and employment. Our community partnerships, creative programmes and student projects put purpose into practice. From ethical manufacturing to cultural collaboration, the Portal Centre for Social Impact champions a more inclusive and sustainable fashion industry.

Discover Children’s Story Centre
Discover is the UK’s first Story Centre for children aged 0-11 and their families. As a not for profit organisation, our aim is to support a love of language, literature and stories.
At the heart of the centre, our purpose-built Story World and Story Garden are creative play spaces designed to inspire children’s curiosity and imagination. We help improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills for children in fun and imaginative ways.
